The Aziziyah District police have arrested the Saudi sponsor and his wife for the alleged murder of a Sri Lankan housemaid. The maid was found dead near her apartment prior to the police investigation. The Saudi sponsor and his wife reportedly staged-managed the crime to indicate that Kamalawathie Menike Wijetunge, 45, had committed suicide outside the apartment where she was working.

The air force carried out a pre-dawn attack on a sea tiger camp in Kavitaramunai, Poonaryn using MI-24 helicopter gunships. The Air Force claims the target was engaged accurately.

Air Force fighter jets launched precision air strikes at an identified LTTE recruit training center located 3km West of Mankulama in Mullaittivu, morning 10.20a.m. According to Air Force Spokesperson Wing Commander Janaka Nanayakkara, the air sorties were carried out successfully. LTTE is yet to release details of losses and will remain tight lip as usual defence observes stated.

17 LTTE terrorists were killed, 5 others reported wounded during intermittent fighting ensued between troops and LTTE at the tensed Wanni battlefront in Kilinochchi and Mullaittivu districts yesterday. Two soldiers have laid their lives and 13 others injured in the day's confrontations. In Navathkulama and Marathamadu military said that five terrorists were killed by the Army.

The newly-elected Provincial Council members of the UNP to Sabaragamuwa and North Central Provinces are to be sworn in next Wednesday (10). General Secretary of UNP Tissa Attanayake said all the 29 councilors will be sworn in before the Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremasinghe at Siri Kotha. The UNP secured only 17 seats in Sabaragamuwa and 12 in North Central Province.
